John 4:1-42

Graphics Options

The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
I Am the Living Water
Option A
I Am the Living Water
Sermon themes:
The water Jesus offers is more than physical sustenance; it’s water that satisfies our deepest longings. True fulfilment is found not in fleeting worldly things, but in Jesus, the source of all life.
The Samaritan woman comes with grief and struggle, yet Jesus sees her, engages her, and has compassion on her. God’s living water is offered not to the righteous, but to all God’s people.
Jesus meets us in our brokenness. Not condemning but bringing restoration and healing to our lives.

The setting for the reading is at a well, where a woman comes to draw water. The vessel in this graphic holds water, but the water is spilling out everywhere, suggesting the abundance of God’s living water. Even the font used in this graphic for the word “Living” suggests the energy of new life that Jesus offers.
Encountering the Light
Option B
Encountering the Light
Sermon themes:
The woman leaves her water jar and begins to tell the story of Jesus to the world. Once we receive the living water and experience the light of Christ, we naturally are drawn outward. Overflowing, we become witnesses to the light.
God’s light doesn’t wait for us to have it all figured out; it meets us in the daily routines of everyday, ordinary life.
God’s light illuminates not to shame or make us feel small; instead, it brings healing and transformation. Encountering the light moves us to turn from what was, to the new thing Jesus is doing.

In this graphic, there is a sense of movement, a sense of light stretching out and popping up in unexpected places. Even the letters have movement. The motion suggests that light is a catalyst for response and action.
Option C
"I See You"
Sermon themes:
Jesus meets the woman at the well without judgment, acknowledging her and addressing her with compassion. God sees who we really are and offers us love.
It is only when the woman realizes Jesus truly knows her that she recognizes him as the Messiah. Being seen by God invites a new perspective. It allows us to let go and receive abundant, eternal life.
When Jesus sees us, we can do no other than respond. Our lives become embodied witnesses of Jesus’ love. Jesus sees us, transforms us, and we then become blessings for others.

Think of this graphic as an abstract image of the molecules and cells that comprise our body. Most people only see the outer layer, which is a bit faint. But as you move inward, each ring of the graphic gets brighter. That bright center is the inner circle where God sees us, where we become truly visible.
