Graphics Options
The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
Option A
Good News
Sermon themes:
•
Because of the Good News, we are called to live differently. The gospel changes how we treat one another and calls us to love, unity, and humility.
•
Though Jesus is equal with God, Jesus takes on the form of a servant and humbles himself to the point of death on a cross. That is the Good News: Salvation comes through Jesus’ act.
•
The Good News for us today is that God is still at work in us. We “work out” our salvation in daily life not to earn it but to live out what God has already done.
Graphic description:
Given that this passage is titled "The Christ Hymn," it is fitting that the flowing lines of this graphic have musical undertones. It is also fitting that the "good news" is coming from all directions.
Option B
Downward Mobility
Sermon themes:
•
In God’s Kingdom, the path upward is downward. Jesus is the ultimate example of this truth. Though equal with God, Jesus empties himself, takes on the form of a servant, and becomes human.
•
Christ’s downward journey isn’t just taking on flesh. He goes further and humbled himself to the point of death, even death on a cross.
•
We, as followers of Christ, are called to adopt the mentality and mindset of Jesus: an attitude marked by humility and service.

Option C
Defying All Norms
Sermon themes:
•
Jesus demonstrates a way of life that completely overturns worldly expectations of power and status. In a culture and society that is self-focused, Jesus challenges that norm and calls us to care for others.
•
The cross is a divine paradox. What humanity intended for harm, God used for exaltation. True greatness comes through humility and service.
•
As followers of Jesus, we are empowered to live differently. When we live counterculturally and are wrapped up in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we demonstrate that the gospel creates a community shaped by different values.
