Graphics Options
The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
Option A
Deceptive Blessing to Bold Dream
Sermon themes:
•
What Jacob and Rebekah intended for selfish gain, God transforms into blessing.
•
Unlikely and imperfect characters still lead to God fulfilling God’s promises.
•
Before Jacob, biblical characters pretty much do what God says. Yet despite Jacob’s very human behavior, God stands by him.
Graphic description:
The contrasts in the image depict Jacob's extraordinary shift from participating in deceit to gain blessing to receiving God's extended blessing in a dream.
Option B
A Trickster Tale
Sermon themes:
•
In a story of lies, deception, theft, and imperfection, God still achieves God’s purposes.
•
Jacob is worried his trick will disqualify him; however, God still shows up and appears to Jacob in the wilderness.
•
Jacob deviously tries to achieve his own purposes, but when God appears in an unexpected dream, Jacob responds to God’s presence.
Graphic description:
The graphic incorporates the theatrical "trickster mask" to represent the mischievious way Jacob tricked his father to obtain a blessing that was not his. And lived to tell an amazing tale.
Option C
Brokenness to Blessing
Sermon themes:
•
God continues to work in and through ordinary, broken people to bring about a new future.
•
God is a God of relationship who worked with Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, and now chooses to continue with Jacob.
•
The promises and blessings God grants to humanity are undeserving and unearned. But that’s the point.
