Graphics Options
The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
Option A
Believing Is Action
Sermon themes:
•
The Roman official takes initiative and seeks healing for his son. Belief starts with taking a step toward Jesus.
•
Jesus heals with just a word. The official believes without seeing the evidence. True belief acts on trust. Trust on God’s promises.
•
Faith that moves us to action results in transformation. Faith is not a noun. It’s a verb that entails participation.
Graphic description:
This graphic is full of energy, color, and movement. The image suggests changes in flow and shape and direction. The central exclamation mark emphasizes the need for, the power of, movement. Belief is not static; believing puts life into motion.
Option B
The Sign We Need
Sermon themes:
•
God’s love for us is not abstract. It’s visible and tangible. God meets us in our need and provides those signs that move us from doubt to belief.
•
The signs Jesus performs are more than miracles. They confirm the power of God’s Word. The signs are more than moments; they validate and point to God’s authority.
•
God’s signs meet immediate, personal needs, but the purpose is in expanding and inviting others to faith.
Graphic description:
Each year, especially when winter has worn us down and we're tired of looking at "dead" trees, we look for the first signs of spring, of new life: plants beginning to sprout. So it’s fitting for this text filled with the signs of Jesus's healings that the graphic depicts a new plant emerging in the light of the sun.
Option C
Savior of the Whole Cosmos
Sermon themes:
•
With a word, Jesus healed the Roman official’s son from a distance. There are parallels to the Creation story, where God spoke and life happened. In the same way, Jesus transcends space, time, and earthly limitations.
•
The scope of Jesus’ life-giving power and redemptive work is cosmic. There is no part of creation that is beyond Jesus’ restoration and redemption.
•
After being healed, the official and his whole household believe because they witnessed the Savior. This illustrates what happens when our faith links us to something bigger: God’s cosmic, salvific plan.
Graphic description:
The image of the universe in this graphic suggests that God’s reach, God’s love, has no limits. The entire cosmos is included. You might also note the capital S at the beginning and end of the title line. They bookend the words, hinting at the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
