Hi. My name is Marcia Broucek, and I’m the graphic designer for Narrative Alive.
As with most life journeys, my path wandered around a bit. But, primarily, I've always been involved in some sort of publishing venue.
Little did I know when I started out in music education publishing that I would end up deep in the world of spiritual books and graphic design for churches!
My first venture into the publishing world was via a music education publisher. After 13 years of managing everything from teaching materials to text books, I migrated over to the field of music therapy for a while, getting a master’s degree in creative arts therapies and doing some clinical work and teaching.
While my work in music therapy was fascinating, the publishing world kept drawing me back. When a friend asked me to do some editing for her company, the book I had the privilege of editing was Ted Loder's Guerrillas of Grace: Prayers for the Battle. What a wonderful experience!
The more involved I got in editing books with spiritual dimensions, the more enthusiastic I became, until I was ready to launch my own publishing company, Innisfree Press.
When the time came to let that company go, most of the titles in my catalog moved to Fortress Press. And I moved into a new combination of music and church work. I became the Communications Director for Soli Deo Gloria, a nonprofit organization dedicated to commissioning sacred classical music by contemporary composers.
After I "retired" from that work, I felt called to St. Mark's Lutheran Church to manage their communications. I was grateful I had an extensive publishing background to draw on. However, my first encounter with the Narrative Lectionary took me by surprise. I quickly realized there was a lack of graphics to draw from. So I started creating my own.
For five years, working with Pr. Patrick Fish, I created Narrative Lectionary graphics for the weekly sermons.
When I "retired" a second time, I got to thinking: 'Maybe I could help other people who use the Narrative Lectionary by creating a library of coordinating graphics.'
That thought has now become a reality, and I'm in the process of building a 4-year library of graphics that sync with the Narrative Lectionary readings.
I welcome your interest in the Narrative Alive graphics, and your feedback!
