A Day for Rejoicing
Option A
A Day for Rejoicing
Sermon themes:
Some churches and pastors call the day of Pentecost the birthday of the Church. On this day, God’s Spirit was poured out on all people: young and old, men and women. The Church is born from that moment forward.
It is definitely a day for rejoicing because God faithfully kept and fulfilled God’s promise by sending the Holy Spirit.
The coming of the Spirit with wind and fire signaled a new day and a new era for God’s people. This isn’t just good news for a few nations. We rejoice because God’s salvation is for ALL nations.

The bubbles in this graphic suggest a celebration. The bubbles' multi-colors represent all nations. The bubbles rising suggest rejoicing. And the light at the top hints at the rest of Peter's sermon about Jesus rising from the dead.
Out of Our Control
Option B
Out of Our Control
Sermon themes:
The birth of the Church did not happen by human planning but was all initiated by God. The sound of a rushing wind and tongues of fire show that this is entirely God’s handiwork.
Many nationalities and ethnicities gathered in Jerusalem on that day. The gospel reached people beyond human ability. The disciples spoke in languages they had never learned—all so that everyone could hear the Good News.
God’s Spirit moves in ways that are beyond human control and yet perfectly align with God’s salvific plan. The spread of the gospel began in a way no human strategy could accomplish.

Stirring Up a New Thing
Sermon themes:
On the day of Pentecost, God stirred a new power among God’s people. This power was the empowering presence of God’s Spirit that gave ability to speak in other languages.
The mighty works of God were proclaimed across all cultural barriers. God was stirring up a new global, worldwide mission, reaching all nations.
God’s open invitation ushered in a new era of salvation. The pouring out of the Spirit on all people began a new day where all who call on the name of the Lord receive salvation.
