Graphics Options
The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
Option A
What Are You Doing Here?
Sermon themes:
•
The movement of this story is from bleakness to boldness. From fearful to faithful.
•
Elijah walks up the mountain feeling completely alone; Elijah walks down the mountain knowing God is with him.
•
It is God’s question that interrupts Elijah’s despair and sets him on a new, hope-filled future.
Graphic description:
The graphic depicts the bleakness of Elijah's despair, as he hides in a wilderness cave. It is there that God meets him—and us—with support and encouragement. And an ongoing mission.
Option B
Tough Mission, Transformative Touch
Sermon themes:
•
Being chosen. Being called. Yes, it has its’ perks; however, it will take us to uncomfortable places and spaces.
•
Never underestimate the importance of a restful nap and a satisfying meal!
•
This is an opportunity to preach about the necessity of practicing self-care. Self-care is necessary to serving God.
Graphic description:
The dark clouds in the graphic convey how hard it was for Elijah, but the outline of an angel's wing reaching out suggests that God's touch changes the picture.
Option C
God's Whisper
Sermon themes:
•
One would expect God to be in the great wind, earthquake or powerful fire. But, once again, God appears in the unexpected.
•
We may want the Moses-on-the-mountaintop experience or the Moses-and-the-burning-bush encounter. Yet Elijah is a great reminder that God is most often in the quiet and silence.
•
We are exposed daily to never-ending ads trying to grab our attention. How do we slow down to listen for God’s voice?
