Graphics Options
The Narrative Alive graphics are designed with careful thought about how they relate to the text. We've provided possible sermon themes for each graphic to help you choose the direction that best fits your sermon.
Option A
"Here I Am"
Sermon themes:
•
Three times God addresses Abraham, and each time Abraham answers with these faithful words.
•
While the story focuses on God’s relationship with Abraham, it’s important to remember Sarah’s role in God’s unfolding purposes.
•
After confirming Abraham’s faith, God responds with a reiteration of God’s promises.
Graphic description:
The dramatic depiction of the words "Here I am" reflect the importance of Abraham's responses—to his son and to God.
Option B
Living with Questions
Sermon themes:
•
We cannot jump straight to God's provision; instead, we have to sit with the discomfort and questions of the story.
•
From Isaac’s laughable birth, to God’s puzzling yet promise-filled test, questions pervade the scope of the story.
•
Faith entails envisioning and living into an unknown future.
Graphic description:
The curving line of the graphic text follows interweaving colors and shapes. which suggest the complexity of life's challenges.
Option C
A Test of Faith
Sermon themes:
•
God puts it all on the line and places tremendous trust in this partnership with Abraham. Is this a test for God or for Abraham?
•
Does Abraham not protest because he truly believes God will provide and show mercy?
•
God and Abraham never use he word “test”; it’s the narrator’s interpretation of the events.
Graphic description:
The balance of the multi-shaped stones of the cairn symbolize the balance we negotiate between our faith in God and our questions.
